Broccoli Stem Pickles

Waste not want not! After cutting off broccoli or cauliflower florets turn that leftover stem into a tasty side dish!

The trick is to cut off all the woody outer bits and just keep the sweet inner pith --you'll end up with about half as much stem as you started out with.

Tasty tasty stems!

Materials & Methods:
Broccoli stems, trimmed of woody bits. If you can see fibers those are woody bits. Cut them off.
Soy sauce or salt (or both, if you're a SALT FIEND >:D)
Splash Sesame oil

1. Cut the broccoli into matchsticks or little chunkies.
2. Sprinkle with soy sauce and a bit of sesame oil. Let it sit for 10 minutes. Taste and adjust seasoning accordingly -- if it's bitter add some salt to draw out the bitterness, rinse, and re-season with the sesame oil and soy sauce.

These taste great in cold bento!
